The Missing Season

The Steamers were scheduled to join the new-MISL when the WISL merged with that league at the end of the 2001 season. Like the original Steamers in 1988, they closed their front office after the season. The new-MISL announced on July 16, 2002 that the club would "sit out" the 2002-03 season but remain a part of the league.

On March 8, 2003, the new-MISL announced conditional approval to reactive the St. Louis Steamers for the 2003-04 season. The team was formally readmitted to the new-MISL on June 9, 2003.
