How He Got Here

A member of the Dallas Sidekicks Practice Squad during the 1999 and 2000 seasons, he signed as a free agent on October 13, 2001.

Always Remember the First Time (and to keep a spare uniform with you)

Sergio Franklin made his first appearance as a Sidekicks' goalkeeper on October 13, 2001. When Sagu was injured late in the game the previous evening, Franklin had to be flown in to Sacramento for his match. His uniform and equipment were locked up at the Sidekicks practice facility, and with his flight at 6 AM the next morning, Franklin wore Sagu's uniform for the match.

• recorded 8 saves, but allowed 5 goals (while earning the assist on Frank Filo's 4th quarter goal), and earned the loss on October 13 at Sacramento.
• Earned first career victory, facing 31 shots, making 11 saves, and allowing 6 goals vs St. Louis on October 20.
• Went 51-25-9 (all career highs) while taking the loss at Utah on October 22.
• Earned his second career victory, going 18-7-6 at Sacramento on November 17.
