Always Remember the First Time

• 1987: First time the Sidekicks opened the Regular Season on the road.
  • Joe Papeleo earned his first assist as a Sidekick on the team's Season Opening Goal.
    
• 1988: First Opening Night game to go to Overtime.

He Said It

• 1989:

"I didn't know who scored the goal."

--Mark Karpun on his Overtime Game Winning Goal vs the St. Louis Storm. He thought that defender Mike Powers had taken the shot.

Season Ending Injury

• 1987: Tatu suffered a knee injury in the first minute of the season. Although he returned to score a goal in the second quarter, he later collapsed and did not play for the remainder of the season after undergoing corrective surgery.

Future Opponents

• 1993: The CISL awarded a franchise to Detroit.
  • That club would be the first team in the United States to sell it's nickname in a sponsorship deal.
    • The name would be the Neon (a Chrysler vehicle) from 1993-96.
    • When General Motors sponsored the team in 1997, the name was changed to the Safari.
