1986: The Sidekicks
filed the first official protest of a league match on this date. The argued
that their 5-4 Overtime loss to Tacoma
on February 7, 1986 should be overturned
on the grounds that the club was not informed Tacoma's trade with the Kansas
City Comets for Keith Furphy until after the 2 P.M. MISL transaction
deadline. Furphy scored the game winning goal in that match, one in which
he should
not
have been
allowed to play. Coach Gordon Jago filed his protest with the Senior Referee
before the match. The MISL ruled several weeks later that the protest
was
not filed with a "League Official", and even though the Sidekicks
were correct, the protest was overruled.
