DALLAS WINS IN OVERTIME

KANSAS CITY ALSO VICTORIOUS

DALLAS – The Dallas Sidekicks defeated the Milwaukee Wave 18-16 in overtime and the Kansas City Comets defeated the San Diego Sockers 24-10 on the second day of the Major Indoor Soccer League Western Conference Preseason Tournament at Inwood Soccer Center Sunday.

Kansas City won the first game of the day on the back of a 8-0 and 10-0 runs. San Diego took an early 4-2 lead at the 5:26 mark of the first quarter. Kansas City responded with four two-point goals in the next 4:11, two of those by Nino DaSilva. The teams split the difference the rest of the half as Kansas City held a 14-8 advantage at the half.

Kansas City scored the first six goals, including two more by Dasilva, which made four on the day, and a pair from 2001-02 MISL scoring champion, Dino Delevski. The Sockers added a late goal by Tony Velasquez to close the final margin.

Kansas City opens at Milwaukee October 5. San Diego also opens with Milwaukee at the San Diego Sports Arena September 28.

The Dallas Sidekicks won game two 18-16 in overtime against the Milwaukee Wave. Sidekicks' rookie midfielder Jamie Harrigan scored the winner 2:11 into overtime. Harrigan took the pass from Sidekicks goalkeeper, Sagu, and pushed his way through the left side of the defense until he was clear and fired it by Milwaukee keeper, Victor Nogueira.

The game was close down the stretch as Milwaukee rallied to tie the game twice in the fourth quarter. With the Sidekicks leading 14-11, Michael King hit a three-point goal for the Wave at 5:14 of the fourth to tie the game. Frank Filo gave the lead back to Dallas 22 seconds later with a diving header on his own rebound. Joe Reiniger found the net for Milwaukee at 7:45 to tie the game at 16-16 and send it to overtime.

The Sidekicks came from an 11-4 deficit in the first half, by scoring 10 unanswered points from the 7:56 mark of the second quarter until King's goal in the fourth. The momentum swung on the third goal of the run. Dallas trailed 11-8 as the first half cam to a close. Antonio Sutton was looking to give the Sidekicks the last shot and dribbled to the left corner. He then tried to center to a pair of cutting players, but Matt Johnson of the Wave got a foot on it and deflected it in the goal as the buzzer sounded to pull the Sidekicks within one at the half.

The Sidekicks open against the Philadelphia Kixx Saturday September 28 at Reunion Arena. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Milwaukee opens the season at San Diego September 28.
