Signed as a Free Agent on July 2, 1984.
Bill Nuttall, then the Sidekicks Director Personell, coached Martin at Florida International University in 1979, and again when Nuttall was coach of the Strikers in 1981.
Martin's first indoor game was December 19, 1980. He scored two goals in a 12-5 loss against his future coach, Gordon Jago (who was then coaching the Tampa Bay Rowdies).
Martin was the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers 4th round selection in the 1980 NASL Draft.
Always Remember the First Time
Scored the only goal of his Sidekicks' career at the Los Angeles Lazers on March 22, 1985.

Ian Martin signed a new contract with the Sidekicks on August 1, 1985, but was released during training camp. He began a career as a youth soccer coach with the Dallas Storm in 1986, and operated his own camps from 1986-89.
While continuing to coach youth teams, Martin became the head coach of Barry University's men's program in 1989, staying there until moving to Butler Uinversity in 1993.
Martin coached Indiana Blast of the A-League (outdoor second division) during the 2000 and 2001 seasons, being fired on October 29, 2001.
Ian Martin is currently Director of Coaching for the Countryside Youth Soccer Association in Clearwater, Florida.
