Overview

Formed in 1978, the MISL blazed trails not only for the sport of indoor soccer, but in game presentation and promotion (some of which are used by major league teams today), not to mention some of the more imaginative team names ever devised. The league disbanded in 1992, with 3 teams moving to the National Profesional Soccer League (which has renamed itself the MISL in 2001), while Dallas and San Diego helped form the Continental Indoor Soccer League. How The Sidekicks Got Here

Donald Carter purchased the bankrupt New Jersey Rockets on January 9, 1984. The MISL had approved a franchise for Dallas during the previous summer's league meetings. The Sidekicks played their first ever regular season game on November 2, 1984.
