1986: MISL Commisioner
Francis M. Dale denied the Sidekicks protest of their 5-4 loss to Tacoma on
February 7. The Commisioner agreed that the Star's Keith Furphy, who scored
the game winning goal that night, had not been signed by the 2 PM Eastern
Time deadline (and the Sidekicks had not been informed of same). He denied
the protest, however, because the Sidekicks did not file the protest with
the League office within the required 48 hours of game-time. Then Sidekicks
Coach Gordon Jago claimed he filed the written protest before the match with
the Senior Referee at the match, but Commisioner Dale replied "The referee
does not represent the League Office."
