Jim Tolbert begins his 14th season with the Dallas Sidekicks, his fourth as General Manager. Tolbert began with the Sidekicks during the 1989-90 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) season as a Marketing Representative and a member of the operations staff. In 1993, he became the Director of Sales for the Sidekicks. While Director of Sales, the Sidekicks ranked first in attendance in the Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL) and the World Indoor Soccer League (WISL). The Sidekick's have lead in attendance for ten consecutive years. Tolbert was moved to Director of Operations in 1995. In 1996, he added another title to his resume as the Director of Advertising and Marketing. Tolbert served as Assistant General Manager of the Sidekicks in 1998 and was promoted to General Manager in April of 1999. He currently leads one of the longest-running soccer clubs in United States history.
Tolbert is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the club, taking care of player contracts, and working with the MISL league office. The Sidekicks made it to the WISL championship game each of Tolbert's first three seasons at the helm. The Sidekicks won the WISL Championship in 2001 and fell by one goal the other two times. Tolbert was awarded the WISL Executive of the Year award in 1999 and in 2001.
Tolbert has also worked for the Dallas Mavericks in their front office. From 1991-1998, Tolbert was a member of the Mavericks' Marketing Department and continues to assist with Mavericks game operations. Tolbert is a member of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Regional Sports Commission. He has directed the ticket sales campaigns for several events in the Metroplex, including the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials for Cycling, Triathlon, and Wrestling, and the U.S. Women's National Soccer Game held at Reunion on December 9, 2000.
Tolbert graduated from SouthwestTexasStateUniversity in 1989 with a B.S. degree. He was born May 20, 1966 in Austin, Texas. Tolbert resides in Dallas. He has one daughter, Cameron (age 8).
