SIDEKICKS SIGN SHAMU, FLANAGAN, AND BARBER
DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Sidekicks signed forward Patrick Shamu, defender Brad Flanagan, and midfielder Danny Barber. Shamu and Flanagan return from the Sidekicks' 2001 World Indoor Soccer League championship team while Barber becomes a Sidekick following a trade with the Harrisburg Heat September 9.
The Sidekicks open the 2002-03 Major Indoor Soccer League season Saturday September 28 at Reunion Arena against the Philadelphia Kixx. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
BARBER: This is Barber's 12th season in indoor soccer, but his first with the Sidekicks. He has played a total of 334 regular season games, scoring 623 MPT (six 3PG, 119 2PG, 115 1PG, 252 assists). He has accumulated 218 blocks, 447 fouls, and 984 shots. He has scored 30 power-play goals, nine short-handed goals, and 19 game-winning goals. He was selected to the All-Star Team in 1996 and in 2000-01. He has made it to eight postseason appearances, playing a total of 24 games. He has scored 49 MPT (one 3PG, eight 2PG, 11 1PG, 19 assists). He has accumulated 31 blocks and has scored one game-winner. He was a member of the 1994 CISL Championship Las Vegas Dustdevils.
FLANAGAN: Flanagan is in his fifth season, all with the Sidekicks. He played 78 regular season games and contributed 63 blocks and 33 points (18 goals and 15 assists). He played a total of nine postseason games and made 3 assists, including the Championship winning assist to Armando Valdivia in 2001.
SHAMU: Shamu enters his eighth season, all with Dallas. He played 136 regular season games, scoring 82 goals and 51 assists for 133 points. He has six power-play goals and seven game-winning goals. Shamu has played in 15 postseason games and contributed seven goals and one assist for eight points. He was a member of the 1998 and 2001 Championship teams.
