Name Change

The MISL dropped the "indoor" from the league's name on July 25, 1990. The reason for the change was an interest among the board of governors to explore adding an outdoor season (which did not happen).

Rules Changes

The MSL approved 3 other rule changes on July 25, 1990:

  1. The goal was increased in size from 6'6" high and 12 feet wide to 7'6" high and 14 feet wide.
  2. Defenders could not stand closer than 15 feet away from any free kick taken (previously the distance was 10 feet).
  3. Shin guards would now be required equipment for all players.
